3, 4 or 5 is a major

A win is worth 0 to 5 points, depending on how many dogs of your breed and sex competed, winner included. The AKC points schedule for your breed and the show's state sets the numbers, and a new schedule takes effect each May 12. A win of 3 points or more is a major.

Points questions.

How many points does a dog need to become an AKC Champion?

15 points, including two majors won under two different judges, with points from at least three different judges.

What is a major?

A win worth 3, 4 or 5 points. How many points a win is worth depends on how many dogs of the same breed and sex competed, winner included, using the AKC points schedule for the breed and the show's state that is in effect on the show date.

Does Best of Winners get extra points?

Best of Winners can take the higher of the Winners Dog and Winners Bitch points for that show. ShowPoints works this out when you add the result.

Does ShowPoints track Grand Championship points too?

Yes. Once your dog is a champion, switch the focus to Grand Champion and ShowPoints counts GCH points, majors and judges the same way.
